The nature of the physical universe – the world in which we physically live – our playing field in the game of life – cannot be entirely explained by physics.
The postulate contained within a seed, the will to live, to germinate, survive, grow and mature, is driven by something beyond physical energy. This alignment to survival can only be explained on a spiritual level.
Growth is physical; the motivation to grow is spiritual.
The physical world manifests and perpetuates through a naturally occurring balance. A natural way in which things relate. A balance that has been established over many millions of years. If left unhindered, this constantly fine-tunes itself to ensure the continuation of optimum life conditions. In this way, we could say the sole focus of the physical world is survival. There is no evaluation or judgement of what is good and what is bad. There is just birth, life, death – and change, which is also constant.
In the same way, if we develop the ability to withhold from evaluation, we begin to see things as they actually are – without distorting reality through judgement or significance. How we feel about things unavoidably changes what we see. If we can withhold from evaluating or judging the behaviour of others, we can remain detached. Then we can see the actuality of things rather than the apparency.
If we make a negative evaluation about another's behaviour, we naturally feel compelled to do something about it. We either want to help them change, or we turn away. Either way, at that point we lose our detachment.
The compulsion to evaluate leads us to taking a viewpoint which is less than the whole picture. It is viewing things from one angle, a limited perspective. It clouds our ability to take a pan-determined point of view. However, if we are able to avoid evaluating, we will arrive at a more detached decision about the best way forward. Our response may be to do nothing: Sometimes the most helpful thing to do can be to let a person work through their own confusion on cause.
In living this way, you remain free of the learned patterns of the mind. You view life as an evolving game, granting people the right to be as they are, by not interfering with evaluation. At this point you also have a clear view of how to help, if help is needed.
When you understand that all problems concern the physical universe, then you can apply spiritual detachment to view the cause of all of problems and the reasons they exist. You can separate the significance from the reality. This is a natural and comfortable action for a spirit.
By ceasing the compulsion to want and own or 'become' things, you free yourself from the traps of the physical world. You are able to reach to things, but will not become confused into thinking you are physical, or that you need physical. You know that as a spirit you are not part of the physical world and so nothing in that world can really belong to you. You are here for a time. You have a body and a cycle of human life entrusted to you. This point of view makes life a very exciting exploration.
