National Events

Celebrations for Australia Day are on again, hosted by each of the states.

Last years' events drew crowds of appreciative onlookers, seeking to join in celebrating this great day for Australians everywhere.

The 2010 events held by Kenja Communication in Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne will include flotillas of small sailing vessels, each representing the Dutch, Portugese, Chinese and French ships as they make attempts to land, and the vessel representing the Governor Phillip and his crew, who successfully did land.

To add some fun to the day, there will be a team of Lady Lifesavers and Silly Sailors on hand to help new arrivals. After the re enactment, some great Aussie style entertainment will be served up in the form of an Australia Day concert, complete with poetry, comedy skits and songs.

The celebrations on this day also honour one of the co-founders of Kenja Communication - Ken Dyers - a Second World War veteran who tragically passed away two and half years ago. Having taken part in the landings at Lae and Finchhaven as well as major campaigns in North Africa, Ken was a man who really knew the true meaning of Australia Day. Ken was also extremely respectful of Indigenous Australians and their contribution as the First Australians, and he spoke often of their spiritual awareness.

In celebrating Australia Day, we not only commemorate the landing of the first Europeans, we also acknowledge and recognise the original inhabitants and their continuing physical and spiritual bond to the land. We acknowledge the contribution they have made and continue to make to the prosperity and richness of Australia's diverse culture. We celebrate their participation in Australian life and acknowledge that it has helped to create and build freedom and opportunity that as a nation, Australia strives to offer all people.

Everyone who plays a part in the celebrations this year will pay tribute to Ken Dyers, praising him for the great and patriotic Australian that he was.

In all states, Kenja Communication extends a warm invitation for local participation in their Australia Day celebrations - now a regular and always popular event on the morning of Australia Day.
