Kenja in the CommunityELGIN STREET FESTIVAL
What began a few years ago as a local retailer hoping to stir community spirit has become an annual event which in 2006, set itself the admirable task of raising funds for the Royal Women’s Hospital.
In2006, the Elgin Street Festival in Melbourne's famed Italianesque region of Carlto, included market stalls, live music, face painting, an animal farm, Tai Chi and Yoga and a fundraising auction with Kenja In the Community out there to help.
And help we did – or at least, Kenja's Fearless Bunyip Snowgum was on hand, meeting and greeting Melbourne's Lord Mayor John So, along with overly excited kids (and grown ups), state parliamentarians, rescue workers, Victoria Police and event organisers. Snowgum even went so far as to 'model' the car just prior to the auction, much to the delight of audiences and the Mayor.
It was a sunny Sunday in Melbourne, a great example of community banding together for a worthwhile cause, and a chance to meet locals and dignitaries alike. All in all a great event and donations from the day along with the successful auction look to have raised good money for a very worthwhile cause.
